Mindy Williams Carlin
Mindy Williams Carlin has been providing expert public relations and public affairs services in support of a wide range of businesses and community organizations in Virginia for more than 25 years. In 2003, she and Mike Carlin co-founded Access Point Public Affairs, which offers results-oriented, boutique-style public affairs support to clients with interests throughout Virginia. They pride themselves on ensuring that all clients receive direct support from Access Point’s co-founders and owners, which offers an individualized, higher level of affordable service and attention that larger firms are unable to match.
In addition to Access Point’s clients, Ms. Carlin has provided public affairs support to Washington Gas, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, the REGION business coalition, a national home-building training program, several healthcare and benefits associations, the American Academy of Actuaries, and the National Association of Mortgage Brokers, among others. She has extensive government affairs experience at the state and local levels on a variety of issues, including healthcare, transportation, education, development and land use, general business issues and regulations, utility regulation, pipeline safety, and environmental issues.
Ms. Carlin also serves as an active leader in the community, which has enabled her to develop strong relationships and visibility as an engaged consensus-builder, and positions her well to leverage her credibility to support the needs of her clients. Her work includes serving as the 2006 Chairman of the Board of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, which is among the largest chambers in northern Virginia. She continues to chair the Loudoun Chamber's Public Policy Committee, Leadership Series, and Health and Wellness Initiative, and serves on the Chamber's Board and Executive Committee. Her efforts have been widely recognized with awards from the Loudoun County Chamber, the Loudoun Economic Development Commission, and the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce, where she also led public policy efforts on a volunteer basis for nearly 10 years. Ms. Carlin is a past Chairman of the Loudoun Health Council and served on the Board of the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance.
In her community work, Ms. Carlin has been very active in the area of education, where among other things, she initiated and coordinated Ethics and Leadership programs for high-school seniors in Loudoun County. Over four years, this program was offered to more than 2,000 high-school seniors. In Fairfax County, she represents the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce on the Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent's Budget Task Force.
She is also extremely active in the area of children’s health and wellness, including supporting the Mobile Hope Program, which supports at-risk youth in Loudoun County, serving on the planning committee for the Let’s Move the Needle on Childhood Obesity’s inaugural event, participating in Girls on the Run, serving on the gala committee for the Medical Partnership for Children, and actively supporting Chantilly Youth Association as a volunteer for more than nine year. She is also an active supporter of Fairfax High School athletics.
Ms. Carlin's community involvement has not focused exclusively in northern Virginia, but also at the state level. She is a member of the Virginia Leadership Council for the National Federation of Independent Business and has supported fund raising efforts for the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP).
In the area of media relations, Ms. Carlin is adept at message development, writing media materials, coordinating events, media training and relationship development with members of the media. She is also experienced at utilizing the wide range of social media vehicles currently available to advance and protect her client’s interests. She has represented diverse interests in local as well as national media markets across the country. Over the past 20 years, she has developed media strategies to generate more than 750 million media impressions for her clients.
She resides in Fairfax County with her husband and partner, Mike Carlin, and her son, Danny. In her spare time, she is an avid yogi, reader, paddle boarder and runner, having completed two Marine Corps Marathons, along with many half marathons, over the past several years.
